“Not long before his death, which took place in 1673 (Thomas Luttrell of Luttrellstown), his son Simon (Col Simon) was in the matrimonial market, and an agent of the Legge family, who was on terms of intimacy with the elder Thomas Luttrell, the uncle of the owner of Luttrellstown**, tried to arrange a match between Simon Luttrell and a Miss Legge-the only blot on the Luttrell escutcheon, in the opinion of this match-maker, being the religion of the family.” (3)
